Waffles from VB, Ice Cream and Hello, Strawberries!

Second Quart of the Season

That's right, it's strawberry season! I think strawberries might be my favorite fruit. Then again, I feel the same way about peaches. And blackberries. And really good blueberries. A nice, crisp apple straight from the tree....so you get the idea. I'm fickle about fruit. But since the seasons are spread out, I can enjoy them all and love each and every one the very most.

The first quart was eaten in the car on our way home from getting them. But the second went to the wonderful Old Fashioned Chelsea Waffles from Isa's Vegan Brunch. I was really lucky to be a tester for that book and you can see a lot of the stuff I made here. Jess of Get Sconed is always so amazing to post all her tester stuff in one ginourmous blog post....maybe I should do that, too. But in the meantime, there's that link.

It's so much fun to see what other people are making now that the book is out. What surprises me is the people who say they aren't 'brunch people' so haven't gotten the book. I'm here to tell you that almost all (if not all) of those recipes make great dinners! Don't miss out! And besides, aren't weekends made for brunch?

And here's some delicious strawberry ice cream. I'm still tweaking the recipe a little, but let me tell you, it's another great way to start strawberry season.

Strawberry Ice Cream

Speaking of ice cream, lola, please get in touch with me to claim your book! I'm not able to email you through your blog. My email address is in the column at the right. Please send me your address so I can get Lick It! out to you! If I don't hear from you in a few days, I'm going to have to draw another winner. (Pssst...in case she doesn't see this, you can still comment on that post. Just be sure I can get in touch with you if you win!)

What's your favorite way to eat strawberries?

We love strawberries! My daughter was just pleading for them all winter at the green grocier, but I just couldn't buy them - I'm trying to explain about eating seasonally to her. Now she's so happy she's berry monster.
Love the waffles - having waffle iron envy...

I LOVE strawberries. I still have a couple weeks to wait here in Maine. I love them all on their own--they're so sweet! Sliced up with vanilla ice cream is pretty great, too. They're also lovely on a spinach salad. I can't wait to gorge on strawberries!

I am loving vegan brunch! I have to try the chelsea waffles, we've loved both the PB waffles and the chocolate beer waffles.

Those strawberries look fabulous! I love fruit :o) I am simple...I love strawberries straight, just as they are. If I want to get "creative" I mix them into a fruit salad with other delicious summer fruits...I know, I am wild, right?!

I am so jealous of Vegan Brunch! I really really want that cookbook. Why do cookbooks need to cost money, lol?! When is the next holiday so that I can beg for it? Does the 4th of July count as a "holiday"?!

yum! Honestly, is there a way that I don't like to eat strawberries? Strawberry shortcake of course is great..also love making strawberry jam so that I can enjoy it all year round. Your strawberry ice cream looks amazing. Thanks for your advice on the ice cream maker too!

Strawberries bake me so glad and I could live on them for weeks! Of course I would't say no, if they were paired with your gorgeous waffles and the ice cream.

mm... I've been lovin' the excess strawberries too! I was thinking some basic vanilla (VCTOTW) cupcake batter as a double layer buttercream strawberry cake...

I've also been having orange strawberry spritzers! YUMMO!
