Many thanks to the Book Publishing Company for their non-stop awesomeness. Did I ever tell you that way back in the '80's I got tempeh starter from them? Well, I did.
In keeping with the theme of this post, let me show you some pictures of our garden, before the deer had a midnight snack.

So far, we've enjoyed 1 jalapeno, 1 green pepper, 4 more cherry tomatoes than pictured and some of the lettuce. The deer have enjoyed the red pepper plant (yes, plant....), the tops of 2 tomato plants (with a bunch of tomatoes) and that almost ready-to-pick pepper. Since it's our first garden, we're learning as we go and having a blast. We've already decided to double it for next year. If anyone has humane suggestions on how to keep the deer away, please let me know.

mmm i love my garden so much! my tomatoes have yet to ripen but i have millions of cucumbers that are about to burst off the vine. hooray summer salads.

My organic farmstand up the road has a safe way to deter deer... I will check out their bulletin when I visit next time and share with you.

the only way i've heard of keeping deer out is to build a fence around the garden which may or may not be practical depending on the size of your garden!!!

congrats to the winner! our garden is very ghetto, but the 'maters are outta control this year because of all the rain we've been getting. you're gonna LOVE thoze zebra tomatoes--mmmmm, they are so delicious and meaty, sprinkle 'em with some sea salt and a few drops of olive oil. ((((drooling))))
btw, i work in a gardening store (wormsway.com) and we sell something called deer off that keep the deer and other critters away from eating yer veggies.
Thanks, everyone, and I'm still open to ideas! Luckily, the deer walked right through our yard the other day and didn't even look at it...maybe they think they got the good stuff!
Some of our pepper plant leaves are looking really spotty and wilted. I'm starting to think they're sick. But the tomatoes are going great!
