That’s right, this latest giveaway is a copy of my own recently published cookbook, American Vegan Kitchen! Since it’s easy to see that I’d be a little biased about this review, here are some snippets from others. But first, check out the Eggplant Parm from the book, but made with chickeny seitan and bonus mushrooms.

From Alisa Fleming, Go Dairy Free:
“Those who have turned to a vegan diet but are missing the indulgence factor will be jumping for joy over pseudo-familiar American-style recipes like the Beer-Battered Onion Rings, Tofu Rancheros, Vegan Sausage Links, Fork and Knife Reubens, Salisbury-Style Seitan with Mushrooms, Yankee Cornbread, New York-Style Cheesecake, Double Dark Mississippi Mud Pie, and Darngood Donut Bites. But be prepared for some new and exciting adventures that shout “nouveau bistro” more than “classic diner” … Fried Avocado Wedges, Savory Stuffed French Toast with Mustard Shallot Sauce, Poblano Macaroni Salad, Chickanini Sandwiches, Pesto Lasagna with Slow Roasted Tomatoes and Mushrooms, and Vanilla Espresso Shake … just to name a few.”
This is from Mark at Soul Veggie:
“Tamasin has done a wonderful job of not only recreating much of the unique cultural aspects of many of the local cuisines and dishes from our childhoods (and indeed, American history), she’s managed to do it with considerable creativity and fun. Such recipes as “Sweet and Crunchy French Toast, “Three-Chile Hummus,” “Seitan on a Shingle” (ask your grandfather!), “Cajun Pot Pie,” and “Lime-Avocado Cream in Puff Pasty,” demonstrate an impressive spectrum of ability and recipes, let alone, one that’s vegan. Providing plenty of helpful tips such as basic recipes on making seitan, spice blends, a page of cooking resources, she even identifies which vegan beers are appropriate IN some of her recipes!”
Of course, some of those vegans who have blogs we know and love had something to say about the book, too.
Check out Bianca at Vegan Crunk for several recipe reviews.
Liz, who was an astonishingly committed tester, also blogged some of the dishes.
Vegan Dad has a review of the book, along with a great photo here.
Over at Weekly Vegan Menu, the Chicago Deep Dish Pizza got rated 5 out of 5 stars! There are some delicious looking photos of it, too.
Kim celebrated Memorial Day with the Incrediburgers and the brats, complete with that flavorful relish.
Still not convinced? Check out this incredible photo by the awesome, Celine! This Crispy Bottom Peanut Butter Pie has a lot to say.

Many thanks to all of you have purchased the book! It’s so fun to see what you’re making on your blogs, too. Please keep those Amazon reviews coming. I’ll post more book sightings soon, so if you’ve made something, be sure to check back. Don’t forget there are some sample recipes on this blog, too.
I’ll post the winner around June 21st, so enter now. International shipping is OK. All you have to do is tell me what your favorite thing is to grill. Then Random.org will work it’s magic. Good luck!
Oops, almost forgot to mention this! Food Network Friday for June 18th is this recipe. To play along, veganize it however you’d like. The idea is to show Food Network how easy it would be to be vegan. Email me or post a comment here by June 18th to be included in the wrap-up.
Are you in Northeast Ohio? Come to the Coventry Street Fair, where I’ll be signing books at Mac’s Backs from 6 to 9 on June 17th. Details are in the sidebar.
And one more thing: I’ll be giving away a copy of American Vegan Kitchen on my American Vegan Kitchen facebook page, too. If you haven’t joined it yet, it would be a good time.

My favorite thing to grill has got to be corn! I think corn is probably one of my number one summer vegetable anyway, and grilling is yet another perfect way to cook it!
I love to grill corn on the cob in the husks and sometimes open the husk and add some earth balance butter, salt, pepper, and garlic, close it back up and let it grill away. I also love to put some asparagus with olive oil, garlic and pepper in some aluminum foil and stick that on the grill….yum…I love summer.
Grilled portobello mushrooms, I think, with vegan tomato hollandaise.
I love to grill vegetable kabobs – usually zucchini, corn, yellow squash and tomatoes.
I loooove to grill portabella mushrooms and asparagus. For some reason, those two are just DELICIOUS eaten together! I also love to have mixed veggies in a “wok” on the grill filled with peppers, onions, garlic, and a drizzle of olive oil! Mmmm! I’m not vegan, but I can eat like one!
A good veggie burger like Amy’s California burger.

portobello mushrooms! I love how tender they get.
Carrots in a orange ginger sauce.
I was recently pleasantly shocked by a Field Roast sausage on the grill. Holy cow. That’s my new favorite.
Is it wrong that I now have the theme song to ‘The Jeffersons’ in my head (‘beans don’t burn on the grill’)?
I’m with the people who say corn on the cob, which I haven’t had in aaages. Little bit of salt, little bit of margarine – mmm. Almost makes me miss TX.
My favorite things to grill are corn and tomatoes which are two of the best things about summer!
Marinated portobello caps, all they way. Who needs burgers?
I absolutely LOVE grilled pineapple and eat in on everything during the summer-veggie burgers, wraps, stir fry, mmmmm. I would love to win your cookbook!
My favorite (and apparently not original) is portobello mushrooms caps. Then I stuff them with pesto, cashew ‘goat’ cheese, or salsa then quarter. This has been our favored appetizer to serve to company for years.
I love to grill corn the most, but potatoes and tempeh are also favorites.
i love grilled pizza! grill the dough, flip, top it and set it heat up!

Mushrooms, hands down. Portabella, shiitake, cremimi, oyster, it doesn’t matter. Of course, zucchini comes in a close second along with corn.

oooh, corn? peppers? mushrooms? We’ll go super broad… I love grilled veggies!
I know it’s boring … but I have to say, it’s tofu. With a nice tamari/maple syrup/mustard seasoning, it can’t be beat! Thanks so much for the opportunity!
My favourite thing to grill is the cumin lime tofu from eat, drink and be vegan. I wrap it in foil, marinate it for a couple of hours and grill it. So delicious!

Right now it’s asparagus. I have a “griddler” and I love grilled peanut butter, banana and jam quesadillas. And having just found some Daiya cheese, I”ve been grilling lots of grilled cheese sandwiches.

June 21st is my birthday!!
I am just loving the photography. It is really food porn.
I love to grill figs. Ripe figs straight from the fig tree. Nothing added to them, just grill them and the sugars caramelize. Just incredible.
And my birthday is 21 June!!
My favorite things to grill are onions, artichokes and corn
Yay for grilling season.
I love grilled seitan sausage (via Vegan Dad’s recipe) or seitan riblets (via FatFree Vegan Kitchen), and eggplant when it’s in season. Yum!
It has to be a toss-up between corn and onions. I wish I had a grill !(apartment sans balcony living)
Brussel Sprouts or Asparagus! Yum!
Corn. Simple, sweet, in the husk corn. I really think no other food is more suited for grilling than this versatile grain. (Seriously, just pick it from the field/garden, and stick it WHOLE on the grill!)
My favorite thing to grill is marinated veggies – yum!
I love grilled vegetables, especially portobello mushrooms – they are transformed into something else altogether.
My favorite thing to grill is portabella mushrooms as well as potatoes grilled in foil pouches with a little galricand braggs for seasoning on both.
Grilled asparagus is the best…..brushed with olive oil, lemon juice and garlic. Yummy!

Corn would be my absolute favorite. I even remember the first place I had grilled corn – my grandma’s house – and how exquisitely good it was.
We grill peaches. The not-quite-ripe ones really improve on the grill. Your cookbook looks fantastic, btw!

Kitchen Witch, does the brandy on your grilled peaches cause a flare-up on the grill? Does it taste alcoholic when it is done?
Anyone have some other liquid that they’ve tried in place of brandy/other alcoholic stuff?
Oh man, it’s hard to pick a favorite, but I’m going to have to say aparagus. It just takes on such a different life compaired to other cooking methods. It brings out the best in the flavor and texture of this spring fav.
We love grilling portobello mushrooms. Yum…
Thanks for trying. The contest is closed and #12, mirbrewer is the winner. Congratulations.
