Contest and Restaurant Review: Singing Bowl, Edinboro, PA

Originally located in Erie, Pennsylvania, the Singing Bowl has recently relocated to Edinboro. The menu is expanded, the space is bigger, and every time we’ve been there they’ve been busier than they were in Erie! Edinboro is a small college town meaning it’s a burger/pizza style place, so it’s especially big news that the Singing Bowl is getting such a warm welcome. The cafe-style sandwiches are hearty and available as pockets (note: these are vegetarian not vegan) or paninis. There are also a variety of salads and burgers, along with a soup of the day.

My personal goal is to try everything on the menu. It’s not going to be easy because I’m sure to be tempted by the special stir fry of the day or the new Sunday brunch. But here’s a sampling of what we’ve tried so far.

We always start with the Hummus Duet. The flavors we chose for this visit were roasted red pepper and chipotle. Nice presentation, great taste.

The sandwiches come with either fries or a salad. Being the healthy vegans we are, we always choose the salad. (Ahem). Instead we follow the hummus with a huge order of the Loaded Fries. They’re topped with daiya, scallions and bacony crumbles and served with sour cream on the side.

This is the Mambo Italiano, which has a hint of sesame oil to it for an intriguing twist.

The Monster Sandwich, with cold cuts, tempeh bacon, kalamatas, and more.

This is the Club Sandwich made as a panini rather than a pocket.

We’ve tried a few other dishes, too, such as the Big “B” which includes grilled seitan and the Pressed Cuban. The most recent Sunday brunch feature was an Autumn Gratin served with wonderfully spiced green beans and a croissant!

We have yet to make it for a stir-fry. Here’s our friend (and co-owner), Jess, with the tofu prepped for the stir fry of the day.

Oh, yeah, I said contest didn’t I? Well, my very first book signing for American Vegan Kitchen was held at the Singing Bowl when it was in Erie. In honor of their relocation, leave a comment on this post to be entered to win a copy of American Vegan Kitchen. International entries are ok and the contest will close Sunday night. Check back Monday to see if you won!

Your reviews always make me wish I could visit these places!!! Yum!!!

    And how could I resist a cookie cookbook competition?!?!? I couldn’t ;)

My favourite is really boring, but ever since I discovered VWAV choc chippers my heart has been given away. Although, I have to say, recently I’ve been addicted to all things pumpkin and I remember Kelly telling me once that there were going to be pumpkin cloud cookies in the book (not sure if they made it in, but there’s not a doubt in my mind that if they did they’d be in the top 3 of my favourites!)

  84. Posted November 6, 2010 at 11:47 pm | Permalink

This place looks wonderful. I’m usually also torn between wanting to explore new menu items and wanting to get my favorites. I guess the only answer is eating there more often!

I’m getting really tired of my own imagination, food allergies aside I need to expand, and NOT sideways! You are so sweet to be doing all these giveaways. I’ll bet you’re racking up some great Karma. Thanks for doing it.
