We had an amazing time in Asheville! So wonderful that it’s going to take me two posts to cover it. The city is artsy, full of music, variety, with something fun happening on every corner and all places in between. As a big bonus, the town (city? town? it’s just the right size) is also very vegan-friendly. Here’s an overview of our few days there.
The place has heart: these boxes to collect money to help the homeless are scattered throughout the city.
We spent some time walking the streets, popping into stores, and art galleries, and also checked out part of the Blue Ridge Parkway.. along with meeting some long-time online friends in person!
Where I indulged in an olive oil chocolate cake. Dessert first, right? At least on my blog, if not in normally in my life. (The photo of this cake seems to have gone missing. Sorry!)
For our first night, we hit the Laughing Seed right in town. We could walk everywhere from our hotel, which felt like such a luxury. We ate so well! But for this post, I’m only including some of the very best. The next Asheville post will be on Plant, which exceeded our food hopes.
The Oasis, a kava drink, at Laughing Seed

On our way back to the hotel, we sat on a bench and watched The Big Nasty play. We loved their sound and I just saw they were playing at the Hop, too. These guys and vegan ice cream?!?!?!?
We toured the Thomas Wolfe house, where Jim took a lot of cool photos and spotted a few lingering trilliums at the Botanical Gardens.
We met the previously mentioned friends at Rosetta’s.
Jim got to meet one of his idols, and saw him in concert. Here he is with Warren Haynes of the Allman Brothers, Government Mule, and his self-named project. We happened to see the rest of the band at the same restaurant we were eating at the next day.

We saw loads of cool murals. If you’re interested, please check out Flickr. No peeking at the Plant photos when you’re there! That place deserves it’s own post. We’re already making plans to celebrate our anniversary at this restaurant. Fall in Asheville? Absolutely!
