Feed Me Friday: Tommy’s in Coventry and a Contest!

We have a serious soft spot for this place. Jim and I have been customers since the early 1980′s. Tommy’s is a Cleveland Heights institution. We’ve enjoyed countless vegetarian, vegan, and even macrobiotic meals there over the years. While the menu remains mostly the same (daiya is a  newer addition!), the servers have come and gone but their favorite sandwiches (named for them) remain on the menu.

They do one of the best tofu scrambles I’ve ever had in a restaurant, and Jim is a huge fan of their hash browns, which I think are more like home fries.  When we go for lunch or dinner, we always get the hummus and french fries, but switch up the sandwiches. If you’re new to the place, I strongly suggest the spinach pies. They have a huge variety and happily sub vegan cheese.

The hummus comes with white pita, but we sub wheat. Piled high with sweet onions, tomatoes, bell peppers and sprouts, we almost always have leftovers to take home.

One of the many spinach pies, this is the Ruth: lots of mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, sprouts, bbq sauce, and daiya.

I get the tempeh reuben a lot. It’s got really good kraut, spinach, mustard, and daiya. The pickle on the side is best tucked into the sandwich. Trust me.

Here comes the contest part, are you ready? The very first person to answer who this is holding our book wins a copy! US and Canada shipping only, and the winner will be determined by the time stamp.

Don’t forget the PPK cookbook challenge is featuring Vegan Sandwiches Save the Day! starting October 14th. We’re also going to have a very special announcement next week so be sure to check back!
