August? Already? Get Grilling Contest!

Where has the summer gone? As I sit down to type this, I’m thinking I can’t believe it’s August already. Then I glanced at the date and realized we are almost half way through the month! This is the time of year I decide to amp up my appreciation of the season. After all, we’re hitting our stride with wonderful, fresh produce so there is no better time to make the most of the grill. I’ve already posted a whole slew of recipes from Grills Gone Vegan (see here), so this time, let me whet your appetite with a few more photos.

Grilled Olives

Cajun Mushrooms

Italian Bean and Orzo Salad

Tempeh and Chickpea Stew with Harissa Biscuits

Porcinci and Sausage Paella

Broccoli and Cheeze Calzone (Yes, on the grill!)

Grilled Nectarines with Five-Spice Granola

One lucky reader has a chance to win a copy of Grills Gone Vegan! To enter, just leave a comment here about one of your favorite foods to grill. US and Canada shipping only, please. The contest will close Monday, August 19th. You’ll still have plenty of time to use that outdoor grill. Remember: all the recipes can be made indoors, too, so you can get those big, bold, grill flavors all year round! Spread the word on the contest. If a lot of people enter, I’ll increase the number of winners, too. Good luck!

I am thinking about getting a grill (my sister had her VERY LARGE grill here for years but I wasn’t allowed to touch it!) and I would love this book. I really like grilled veggies, which is what sis would grill for me. I absolutely love ALL your books and it would be great to round out my collection. Thanks.

I’m currently all about grilling leafy greens like halved heads of romaine lettuce and bok choy, but summer squashes and big ol’ portabella caps are also popular at our house. I’d love a copy of your book to help me expand my grilling horizons!

I love grilled polenta. I buy it ready made. It comes in a tube. I slice it and brush it with olive oil and pop on the grill. YUM!
I also like to grill eggplant, summer squash, red and yellow peppers, radicchio and endive. I toss them in a balsamic olive oil mix and then grill. They can be eaten right after grilling or they can be sliced ad tossed with pasta (penne is my fave).

Well, I have a new love: GRILLED PIZZA!, thanks to The Great American Vegan Cookout – Live Chat with Tami in June! I really want to try grilling fruits! Oh and those olives and the mushrooms in the photos above are my next must-tries! Okay, now I am hungry!

I love grilling pineapple and watermelon… the way the sugars carmelize just makes me feel warm and tingly inside! BUT, if I were to win this book, I would probably find some new favorites. :)

I absolutely *love* any grilled veggie!! I could make a meal out of that by itself!!!
Zucchini, bell pepper and mushrooms being the ultimate top 3 but I’d eat anything grilled veg! 😉

My favorite food to grill? Can I answer with EVERYTHING?! But, really, I’ll grill almost anything. Fresh veggies are always the easiest and fastest for me though.

Also, are you trying to get me to propose to you with those grilled olives? I LOVE OLIVES!

    Hi Tami

We so enjoyed your talk at Malaprops and getting a chance to meet you when you visited Asheville!

I love to grill portobello mushrooms like burgers and top with either a spicy hummus or a spicy black bean chipotle dip I make that has the consistency of hummus but much bolder and spicier flavor. (I spread it on the gill side and put that gill side down on the bun). Sometimes I will top that with a bit of Daiya pepper jack or cheddar on top (or use a homemade nut cheese). Served on a toasted bun with lettuce and tomato these satisfy that grilled food desire and kick a little butt in the process. I have also served it on grilled romaine hearts that have been sliced in half lengthwise for those that don’t care to eat the bun. A hit even among carnivores!

I’ve never owned a grill, so I didn’t have the opportunity to get very creative with grilling. However, I’ve been invited to a barbecue with friends next week and, being the only vegan among the guests, I’ll bring tempeh so that I finally get to try it on the grill (and I’ll bring enough of it for anyone who’d like to give it a try, too – spreading the vegan food love!)
I must say that what I’ve read about your book so far makes me feel more and more tempted to get a grill… It seems to be filled with so many creative ideas for yummy things to grill, and I don’t think I’d get invited to enough barbecues to try them all in this lifetime, so it’d be best to get my own grill and start playing!
