In Julia Child’s kitchen in the Smithsonian

Welcome to my virtual kitchen, tucked away in a little corner of the internet.  Here you’ll find my latest kitchen creations and more. This blog started back in 2007 for the very first VeganMoFo event. After dipping my toe in the water, I took the plunge and have been here ever since.

My cooking started long before that. With fond memories of baking with my mom, later of 8th grade home economics class, and eventually learning a new way of cooking when we became vegetarian in 1980, it’s been an exciting and fun process. My husband, Jim, and I had stretches of veganism, but didn’t commit to it until 2004. We are so happy we did.

But you don’t have to be vegan to find a place at my table, or in this case, at my blog. More and more people are reducing meat (or eliminating it) every day. If that’s you, you’re bound to find some great options here. Of course, I’d love for the world to be vegan, but even one meal a week adds up. Some of the recipes here are perfect for transitioning your diet.

Speaking of vegan, you’ll probably hear as many reasons for going vegan as there are vegans. Let me tell you a little about how I got here. After eating a chicken sandwich in a fast food place, I realized I was eating the skin of another animal. That’s what it took for me to make the connection, and I determined that I never wanted another animal to die in order for me to live. From there, I started investigating. When I learned about links between meat eating and world starvation, it became even easier. I’m not proud of the fact that it took me as long as it did to become vegan, but I’m here now and thriving. My goal is to make it easier for you to add vegan meals to your menu.

Enthusiastically, I started testing for well-known cookbook authors, and loving every minute of it. Shortly after that, I was cooking 2 meals a day (I only cook breakfast on weekends), and starting to have more ideas than I could cook! As the notebooks filled up, my first book was soon to follow.

Thanks for sharing this journey with me. If you’d ever like to talk food, I’m here! Email me at veganappetiteATgmailDOTcom, or via the contact form.
